This year, Northampton Tennis CIC proudly ran our very own Grand Slam Series, four fantastic events inspired by the professional tennis calendar. Just like the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open – our players got the chance to experience the thrill of competing across different venues, building their skills and confidence along the way.
Over the course of the series, 174 children took part across 40 competitions held at four beautiful venues. The atmosphere at every event was incredible – filled with energy, teamwork, determination, and of course, plenty of smiles!
A special thank you goes to Andrew at Brand Print and Colin Cooper at True Potential Wealth Management for their generous sponsorship. Their support allowed us to create our wonderful Honours Boards, which the children absolutely love seeing their names on – a small reminder of their hard work and achievement!
Why Competition Matters for Children
At Northampton Tennis CIC, we truly believe that healthy competition is a vital part of children’s development. Sport provides a safe, structured environment for kids to experience the ups and downs of winning and losing, while learning resilience, sportsmanship, and respect for others.
Competition helps children to:
Develop emotional resilience – learning that setbacks are a part of growth.
Build confidence through effort and improvement.
Learn goal-setting and perseverance.
Understand teamwork and fair play.
It’s natural for young players to feel upset when things don’t go their way – especially when they care deeply about doing well. Many parents have been there: your six-year-old walks off court in tears after a close match. What do you say? Does it really matter that they lost?
The truth is – it’s not the result that matters most, but the lesson. As parents and coaches, the best thing we can do is to acknowledge their feelings and then gently guide the focus toward effort and improvement:
“I’m proud of how hard you tried today.”“You played with great energy.”“What did you learn from that match?”
By helping children see each experience as a step forward, we teach them that every game – win or lose – is an opportunity to grow.
Looking Ahead to 2025…
We’re already planning how to make next year’s Grand Slam Series even bigger and better! Expect new ideas, new challenges, and maybe even a Masters Event Series for our most dedicated players… 👀Stay tuned for more updates coming soon!
Thank you once again to all our amazing players, parents, venues, and sponsors for helping make this year such a success. Together, we’re not just building better tennis players – we’re helping raise confident, resilient, and respectful young people.
Here’s to another year of great tennis and even greater memories! 💪🎾
